The second residential development within the Masalanportti planning area, As Oy Kirkkonummen Ferdinand, will be completed at the end of January 2025. This new project by Joo Group aims to achieve the highest level of LEED environmental certification: LEED Platinum.
The international LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system is recognised in over 180 countries. In Finland, there are currently 386 LEED-certified projects, of which only nine new developments have achieved the prestigious Platinum level. Reaching this standard requires significant investment in energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and responsible practices.
– We’re thrilled to see our first LEED-certified project nearing completion. The LEED certification process takes residents’ comfort into account in many ways, and we believe this development will be an outstanding place to live for both new and long-standing residents of Masala,” says Antti Niskanen, CEO of Joo Group.
New low-carbon concrete innovation
A-rated for energy efficiency, the building is equipped with solar panels and a geothermal heating system. In addition, the outdoor paving features carbonised concrete, a material that locks carbon dioxide directly into its structure. This cutting-edge Finnish innovation was developed by the technology company Carbonaide in collaboration with concrete product manufacturer Rakennusbetoni- ja Elementti Oy.
– Kirkkonummen Ferdinand is the largest development to date to feature products manufactured with our technology. For us, having our products utilised in a project focused on quality and sustainability is a valuable indication of the industry's interest in a technology, which we soon aim to introduce to element production, too, says Tapio Vehmas, CEO of Carbonaide.
Both furnished and unfurnished rental apartments
As Oy Kirkkonummen Ferdinand will offer 73 rental apartments under the Joo Kodit brand, available to both private individuals and companies. Apartments can be rented either furnished or unfurnished. The project’s principal architect is Haroma & Partners, while construction is led by Aura Rakennus Uusimaa.
– This project has been a learning experience, and I’d like to thank our construction partner Aura Rakennus and all stakeholders for their flexibility and high-quality work, Niskanen adds.
